What do you think about Italians, sorry for my explicit question? -
In my life I ve often met a lot of prejudices about Italian people. Mafia, illiteracy,pizza,mandolino...and so on....Don t you think that s an old stereotype of years 20s?? Or maybe features attributable to immigrant people whose only problem was working to earn money?? Does racism against Italy still exist even after all this years??? You know, a lot of italians love USA, and are inspierd by American lifestyle, so sometimes bad comments hurt a lot!|::::|Italians seem to be one of the few nations that have got it right in a lot of respects. Forget their criminal history. Everybody has that. Tell me one country which wasn t build with a little bit of crime giving a helping hand. Italy has the most beautiful nature, amazing architecture, they have beautiful women, and their language can make the hairs on your neck stand up. Their art is second to none, and they have produce some of the most brilliant minds of the last 1000 years. They have their quirks, but don t we all? Foreign people in other countries will get bother always. Natives don t want to blame themselves about what s wrong in their homeland, do they? Personally I ve nothing but good things to say about the Italians.|::::|In South America they are really respected, probably because there are so many Italians in southern Brazil, Argentina, and basically everywhere else. They are seen as classy (for the most part), stylish, always with the latest fashion, and you guys have great food. I m not even talking pizza, I m talking gnocci, tiramisu, pasta a la putanesca, pizza with arugula and olive oil..... ayyy que delicia However, in the US, they are seen as guidos sometimes. A guido is a stereotype of Italians in New Jersey that are tanned till they are orange, wear spiky hair, chug muscle milk (protein), wear girly clothes, work out all day, and go to clubs that blast trashy europop to pick up potential guidettes. For the most part, Italians are just other ordinary people around here though, but the guido stereotype does pop up from time to time. Personally I think you guys have a lot of culture and a lot to be proud of, plus our languages are almost the same (Spanish and Italian) so I like Italians.|::::|I don t think there s nearly as much prejudice against Italians now as there was when I was a child. Some of my older relatives used to make derogatory comments, I ll admit. When I was little, I always thought of certain foods when anybody mentioned Italy: pizza, spaghetti, lasagna especially, all of which I loved excessively. This, I think, was fairly common for my generation. So, although most folks are aware of the connection between the Mafia and Sicily, the old prejudices are just that -- old. Italians are just another type of European, alongside Germans and French and English, Dutch and Swedes and Portuguese. They re not that exciting now, compared to more exotic newcomers. But you ll still find some rube now and then who has no manners whatsoever, who ll pop off with some ridiculous comment. For some reason, there seems to be one of those in every halfway large crowd. It s like one of those perverse laws of the jungle, I guess, along with Murphy s Law. If anything can go wrong, it will. If somebody with a big mouth can open his trap and say something stupid, he will. Don t let it get to you. Just keep rooting for a fly to land in there.|::::|In a shortly way I m going to say that Italy is one of those countries who have a wonderful culture; interesting, intelligent and beautiful people. I love their language and the way of cooking.|::::|And the Italians do the same thing to the others.|::::|Inmigrants are often misregarded in the migration countries. In current times, italians are known by their fashion style, their ancient culture, their exquisite food etc. Wanna know the opinion of the european people over americans in these fields? Don t be offended, Cat, but you must recognize that in the whole world people dislike americans and their Doris Day way of life more than other countries and italians more kindly (up with you!)
