Is becoming a Physical Therapist worth the cost? -

I am a graduate student currently taking biology courses. I was thinking about becoming a PT but the school I want to attend does not offer financing. The program would cost something close to $84,000 total (DPT program). It could be more (books and all) but I wanted to make sure that this would be a good investment. With private financing the interest would be a liability. In California where I live PT make between $60,000-$120,000 per year. Is it difficult to earn money on the higher end of this scale as a PT in California? Is this too much money for such a program? Do PT get mainly part time work? I have read that the level of PT degree is not as important as experience but the DPT is now becoming the standard. I live in San Diego and I can t move (family etc). There is only one PT school in the whole damn city/county - very lame. I just wanted to get a realistic opinion about this issue. Thanks so much.|::::|That is the debate in the PT world. I have a DPT but I have been a PT almost 20 years. I originally got a BS in PT and then got a DPT in 2005. I love what I do. It is a profession htat you treat the whole body and the lifespan. You can treat and infant in a neonatal care unit, an athlete, a back injury, a trauma victim, a total knee replacement, a stroke, and geriatrics and much much more. You can work in a hospital, school, outpt clinic, aquatic facility, nursing home, research center, home care, and much much more. You learn differential diagnosis, cardiology, pulmonology, orthopedics, neurology, pediatrics, radiology, integument, research, education, clinical science, kinsiology, neural science, motor learning, pharmacology, business, law and ethics, and again much much more. Unfortunately, you did not make this decision as a freshman. Many school offer a 3+3 program. 6 years total. Many state schools offer a DPT which is definately cheaper. You can still get a MS in PT but it is getting harder and harder to find as the professional organization has mandated that all school become DPT by 2020. Most schools have already started the conversion. PT work full time. Many work a part time job as well esp as a new grad. Because of the shortage of PTs, many facilites are oftering sign on bonuses and loan forgiveness. Most clinical professionals have gone the doctorate route--chiropratic, pharmacy and PT. Think about it and see your options before you decide to take on the school for DPT. PTs dont get only part time work you can go per diem or even full time and depending on your experience you can become a DOR. Also you have such choices as working in Peds, outpatient, nursing homes, home health... in the states of CA and NY you do need to have a DPT licensure. Try and consider becoming OTR you may have better options in schools. Or then become a PTA they too make good money. And since you do have a family... did you want to work full time?

What branch of the military earns more money? -

Just curious. My daughter wants to join when she is 18 and be a doctor in the military but isn t sure what branch she should join. I was just curious which one makes the most money?|::::|They all make the same according to their rank/time in. An E-3 in the Army (Private First Class) will make the same pay as an E-3 in the Navy (Seaman) so on and so forth. EDIT: Well the down voting happy freak doesn t seem to realize that all pay is the same but some jobs and situations get extra money. But hey I can t control the anal retentive people on this board that get their feelings hurt when people don t get all text book informative on them and write 5+ paragraph answers|::::|All branches pay the same. Every single one of them. The only difference comes with bonuses and special pay. The Army has BIG enlistment bonuses, the AF does not. The Navy has sea pay and Dive pay, the Army does not. Base pay is the same for everyone. The only way she can be a doctor in the military is to get her medical degree and THEN go in as an Officer. ALL doctors are Officer s. She would be unable to complete medical school while on Active Duty. There is just not enough time. It generally takes about 4-5 years to earn an Associates while on Active Duty and about 8-9 years to earn a Bachelor s. If she truly wants to be a Doctor, she needs to go to school first.|::::|Though all the answers here pretty much cover this question one thing was not mentioned. Doctors and Lawyers get higher pay than other officers of the same Rank as an incentive to get them to join the military. That being said, the best thing for your daughter to do is get her doctorate first, then join. About three months ago, I joined the Amway business and signed up as an LTD member, and let me say, it s been stressful ever since. All the relationships I formed at the function in Kansas City are fakes. They are just after my money. You see I m a graphic designer, a recent college grad that has a job that doesn t pay me good enough to move out of my parents house. So I have been looking for a full time job in a tight economy which is stressful alone. I m kinda going back to school part time to better my skills and built a website for my mom, and got paid really well for that. Three months ago, I was suckered into Amway hoping that I would make enough money and be a multi-millionaire and be what every calls quot;freequot; but it didn t happen. My upline kept pressuring me to talk to people that I haven t seen in years and try to get them to sign up as IBOs, spend my hard earned money on products just to meet the 150 PV each month so I would get a check which is not much in return, and pushed me to talk to family members to get them as customers, and drive everywhere to do QI s. Luckily, I have four people on me as customers, but they can t afford to buy from me cause the economy, and there s my boyfriend who is my first downline. However, I d rather have my boyfriend sign up under my upline instead of me because I suck at the Amway business, since I m not making hundreds of dollars. I hate selling products. My boyfriend and I are starting our own business in graphic design and 3D work, we re working on this website of ours and hope to have it completely launched this January. I was always told if you stick with what you re good at, then you will definitely make it big. What I m good at is art; graphic design, NOT AMWAY. My upline said graphic design is something I do on the side, not as a career, and that p**sed me off greatly; that crossed the line--GRAPHIC DESIGN AND ART IS MY CAREER, NOT AMWAY!! It s all about people. You can join one person and/or group within Amway and not relate to them at all (and vice versa) and have the worst experience of your life. Or you can join another person and/or group, also with Amway, and relate fantastically (and vice versa!) and have the best experience in your life. The funny thing is of course that a group you feel terrible in, someone else may feel great it, and a group they thought was horrible, you d adore. It s one of the things about Amway, and network marketing in general, that is both a strength and a weakness. One thing to always remember with Amway though is that it s *your* business, not your uplines, so you re well within your rights to tell him to go f**k himself if you don t like the way he operates. While doing so it s probably important to remember that he probably actually does mean well, but clearly there s a communication issue and you don t relate well together. So ... there s plenty of folk who ve had bad experiences in the Amway world, again mostly to do with who they re working with rather than Amway per se, but there s also been plenty of people (such as myself) who have had great experiences. Best of luck whatever you choose to do.|::::|quixtar is not amway but it used to be, they changed their name because of the bad conotation of the name amway.they will change it back to amway. it is a great business. you can start when ;you are sixteen and can start sining people up when you are 18. the support of your business depends on your depth or how many people you have under you and the profit of your business depends on how many groups you have. quixtar is an amazing business that has great oppurtunity. i know a few people that are living on quixtar alone and have no other source of income. you dont even have to put that much time into it. the secret to earning a lot of money in this business is to set up a customer, or someone under you that is not an ibo but that can order products. you get mor pv and bv than if you order it yourself, i think it is 1.5x. in order to set someone up as a customer they must have a seperate adress. once you start a new group your profit doubles, just stick with it, it will take about a year for it to really kick off. quixtar is great with all of the products that they have and the ability to start making money in a system where you dont have to trade time for money. when your career with quixtar starts to get very expensive you dont have to quit what you are doing and you dont have to tell the world about quixtar either. you can still do graphic design and be putting a few hours into quixtar a week. your upline might not have known how you felt about graphic design and even if he did it isnt a good enough reason to quit a business as great as quixtar you dont have to try to sign up people you havnt seen in years just tell people that you meet at work or whatever. just go at your own pace with it and itll work out good.|::::|I was in amwy 12 years ago before it became Quixtar. I do believe the company was good and the products are still to this day phenomenal but because of the tarnished reputation amway got out of the 50s it is an extremely hard product to move and the baby boomers especially tend to stay away. My wife on the other hand was with Quixstar when we met 7 years ago. She was doing make overs with their make-up line. She loved the products as did everyone who tried them. The problem with Quixstar today is there are many more MLMs that now have equally good products, you don t have to spend as much per month to earn your 100 PV and there are much better pay structures. Coincidentally my wife happened to get back in touch with her diamond from Quixstar just a few months ago. The news was intriguing. We found out that the business had been passed down to Dexter s son s who, once got control, restructured the company for the worst, in most people s opinions. In fact it was so bad that they lost half of their distributors. So now my wife s ex-diamonds from Quixstar Their names are Jack amp; Effie by the way, are now involved in a business called Mona Vie. They couldn t say enough good things about it. Apparently almost everyone that left Quixstar is now involved with Mona Vie. And what took some people years to create just a couple thousand dollars a month in Quixstar, people are doing this in just months with Mona Vie. So my Wife and I checked out this Mona Vie. I want to apply for financial aid for college but I have concerns. I m worried because even though I m married, I file single to get my earned income tax credit. I use a different address and my husband files single also( he makes too much money for us to get earned income credit). I am sure there are old couples worse off than my parents.. if their partner is dead and they have no family at all.. and if they are too ill or in some constant pain.. from rheumatism .. that won t kill anyone but it s a severe pain and makes movement very painful and difficult.. so those people may looks sad out of loneliness mainly and because some do have bad health.. and if their best friends pass on.. they got nobody close by to talk to.. Loneliness is horrible at whatever age. it makes people depressed. We all need at least one person in our life we can talk to and consider a friend..otherwise we feel life has no longer any purpose.. that is a reason often if an old couple have been married for a very long time like 50 years and then one of them dies.. the other loses the fighting spirit and even if they are healthy.. all of a sudden they catch a cold and they lose the will to live and 6 months to a year later they follow their partner... they are lonely.. some old people who got nobody.. even are so depressed they commit suicide.. it s not just young people with depression.. old people get depressed out of loneliness and because they feel they are a burden to everyone and society thinks they are useless.. that s horrible but true.. Oh don t think that old people have regrets about the past.. My dad travelled most countries in the world.. he was really lucky .. he retired from work at age 59 and enjoyed good health.. he has seen India, Afrika, Russia, the USA, Canada, a lot of continents.. and countries. every year he goes somewhere still.. and my mom had an adventurous youth.. so I don t believe they regret things they never did.. because they have done a lot in their life.. some people may not do much and then live and regret in old age on the things they missed out on and then some illness and old age prevents them to realize their dreams.. but most old people did have a fulfilled life.. which is also why when old people think about the inevitability that all of us have to die sometime, they are a lot less scared of the word death than young people, because they had their life.. all they may be afraid of is to die alone and to have a lingering illness.. Isn t that wooden thinking? If there are jobs out there, surely people should be taken off benefits and gainfully employed to do them for at least a minimum wage. Otherwise, people are effectively employed and filling job vacancies in return for benefit money which, I believe, works out to less than the minimum wage. If we get unemployed people to fill job vacancies the number of unemployed will only rise as a result of there being less jobs available. That means more unemployed people filling ever more job vacancies until we turn in to a nation of doleys all working for benefits instead of wages. Am I alone in thinking this is a little strange? Your arguments are full of holes.|::::|I will continue to work because we can t all be on welfare or benefits, here is what I propose we do for leeches that live off of others. Drug testing: I have to take one for my job that pays for their laziness, I say we expand the test and make it inclusive of alcohol and tobacco too. I also think they should have to take a depo-pevera (birth control shot) before receiving benefits, I am not paying for them to keep popping out kids when they can t afford the ones they have. it is not permanent and once off of the program they can go back to indiscriminate breeding. Breeding is not a right it is a responsibility. We should strip them of their right to vote while they are on welfare. If you can t make good enough decisions in your life to stay off of welfare then you can t make a good decision in something as important as our electoral process. When they do vote, they only vote for people that promise them more freebies at my expense. This would be reinstated once they are off of the program. They should have to preform community service for 15 hours a week with a big orange vest that says WELFARE across it. If the usual motivations for a good life don t motivate these people maybe some humiliation would, it would also get them out of the something for nothing mindset. We should cut off food stamps altogether, we need to give them a pallet of food staples like flour and things to make food with so they quit abusing the program and buying steak and everything else that is a luxury food item. Audit them occasionally, I hate when I have to drive by the projects on my way to work and see nicer cars than I have in their driveways. I am not against people getting help when it is necessary but too many use it as a way of life. If we make it as uncomfortable as possible for them instead of coddling them it will motivate them to better themselves instead of staying comfortable on my dime. I am not against anyone but there needs to be an incentive for these people to get off of their a$$ and on their feet. IT IS NOT THE GOVERNMENT S JOB TO PUT A ROOF OVER YOUR HEAD AND FOOD IN YOUR BELLY, HOW ABOUT SOME PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY? EDIT Beggars can t be choosers, and if you are on the dole then you are a beggar, you might not be on the street but you are getting something for nothing. How to fix a Sims 2 glitch? -

Hey everyone. I am having a hard time figuring out what to do, so maybe somebody could help. I have the Sims 2 Nightlife, Seasons, Freetime and I just installed Bon Voyage and Apartment Life. I always use the boolprop cheat. Well, starting last night my sims would go to work, but when they would come back there would be a minus sign next to the money they earned and money would be taken out of there funds! I would really appreciate any suggestions on what to do! Thanks!|::::|boolprop is a debug tool, it won t in any way harm your game to play with it on at all times. I do. When you install new expansion packs, sometimes the mods in your download folder will not work, or cause problems. To determine what file(s) in your Downloads folder may be the culprit, do a binary search: 1. Divide your content into two roughly equal halves. 2. Pick one of those halves and stick it in your game. 3. Does anything go wrong? A. If so, your problem is in this half. Repeat step 1 on current downloads. B. If not, your problem is in the other half. Repeat step 1 on the half you didn t load.|::::|You should probably try playing it without the boolprop cheat to see if that is the problem. Do you have any game mods (i.e., inteenimater)? Some of them require a different mod for different expansion packs. You can also download patches from EA s Sims 2 web-site.

How soon is too soon to teach your child about saving money? -

I am a seventeen year old college student. For my entire life, I have been relatively good with money. Now, I have made some unwise spending decisions, but in general I hate to spend my money. When I was five years old, I wanted the Fisher Price Dream Dollhouse. It was about $100, and my parents told me that if I wanted it I needed to save up the money to buy it. I never actually earned a real quot;allowance,quot; but I was able to earn money by doing extra chores. I saved my Birthday and Christmas money towards the dollhouse; instead of getting Slurpees at 7-11 I would ask for that money towards my dollhouse. Eventually, I did have enough money to pay for the dollhouse (I asked for accessories for my Birthday). Do you think that was a wise decision on my parent s part to make me save up for a dollhouse at such a young age? Do you think there is any positive or negative to the situation? Thank you,|::::|Anytime children recieve money at any age, they should learn about the options to save for the future. Too many too often learn to ask for handouts and you have to buy me this and that cause everyone else has one. This is what led to the buy now pay later money problems that have build up over the last 45 years.|::::|Well I don t feel you should make do chores for money that s not really the way it works. I get my 6 and 7 year Old to do 2 small chores (I mean not hard some stuff that is a bit interesting) it teaches them to be responsible parents. For their allowance they get 5 dollars a week if they want to do extra chores I give them some more money especially if they are saving. I started giving my son allowance at age 6 and told him about saving money and that s when allowance started. If they are saving and they do something special I add money. On good report cards and occasions of course I pay for it. And if they like say not fighting for 2 weeks I might them a small gift hope my advice works!|::::|In my opinion i would never do that to my kids at 5 i would wait untill they are atleast 8 or 9 before i said if you want something save your money. my son is almost two and i already started teaching him about saving money, but not in a mean way, all the change we get from one day we give to him and he goes and puts it in his piggy bank. But in my way of parenting no, i wouldnt do that to my chidlren, i think there is a time when they need to learn but as for 5 years old they need to just be kids. thats what being young is all about.|::::|Well I was 13 when my parents taught me to save money to buy things.My experience at 5 I didn t understand what save money was. I m not saying your way wrong but in my experience I m glad I waited till I was 13. Parents raise there children different so I don t think there a wrong way to do that.|::::|My daughter is two and since we started potty training her a little before that we found she was interested in money so as a reward for going to the bathroom we would give her our left over change. she has a piggy bank and loves to put the money in herself and then shake it to see how much she has. i think this is a good age to start. you make it fun and they learn at the same time. sometimes if she wants something we will get out a dollar and go to the store so she can pick something out. she also has a bank account which for being two and having the amount she does already is really going to add up. I don t think there s really anything negative about the situation. maybe you shouldnt buy big things at that age but small things are okay.|::::|It s never too early to teach a child how to earn, save and spend. This way the child learns what to expect if they want to buy something and begins to develop good quot;money managementquot; habits. I think your parents did the right thing and you re asking an intelligent question, because you knew to think about it.|::::|Ir s never too early. Whoy would any decent parent just hand everything over.....that s setting a child up for failure in my opinion. As for the dollhouse thing, I don t know Personally I d have gone 50% on that one. My 4 year old has sat with me while doing the household budget since she was born....I m not shy/reserved about finances at all. I feel kids deserve to now where the $ goes. It only seems to be a problem for people that make a lot of money, or people that blow what little money they make. Being the quot;in-betweenquot; of that, we think it s best to be upfront about it all. The will learn from our wise (and ignorant choices). In the end we just hope they will be somewhat comparable to how we are with money, if they are then they should be alright once adults.
