I am so mad that I donated 20 dollars??!!? -
I was on the street corner and I saw a teenage boy and his little sister holding a can to accept donation, their mom had died. And passed the corner some people were holding the same signs. My mom amp; I decided to donated 20 of our hard earn money. So anyways as I went up the the group of people (without the girl with the can amp; her bro) I ask if I can donate, and this teenger girl said SURE SURE very disrespectfully, and another guy was there wanted to ask me a question but instead was said quot;NEVERMIND I DUNNO WHAT LANGUAGE YOU SPEAKquot; instead of feeling like I did a good thing I felt like I was cheated of my money, and racially discriminated (They were hispanic, and I m asian). I should just gave it to the girl with the donation box. ARGHH|::::|Giving something to another person is not about how it makes you feel. That is selfish. If you make the decision to give then you must give with an open, gracious and accepting heart. Otherwise the gift is meaningless. I understad feeling the way you did, but the spirit of charity does not make demands or requirements for giving. There is no guarantee that your money went to a good cause. It may have been used for drugs or sex or even to buy bullets for a gun to kill someone. You will never know. But that is not what you should be worrying about. Your worry should be that you felt hesitant about the quot;rightnessquot; of giving because the people you gave to did not seem appreciative eough. What would have made you happier? Would you prefer them to kiss and lick your feet. Or to shower you with blessings and gratitude. If we give only to people who make us feel good about giving then what good thing have we done? Even bad people are nice to people who are nice to them. Love those who hate you. And give generously to those people who would use you and take advantage of you. Give even more to them. Give all you have. Because by so doing you are teaching them what kindness and charity really is. And by so doing you are saving yourself.|::::|You had good intentions, and that s what counts. You bought yourself some good karma. In the future, do a little more research if you re so anxious to have your money put to good use. Talk with the people BEFORE you reach in your purse. Ask for verification of what they tell you - anyone can make up a sad story, but not everyone can prove it. Find out what they want to use the money for (food, shelter, clothing), and then offer to buy that for them, instead of just handing out cash.|::::|Never give cash to street people --- Theres usually something sinister going on behind the scenes..... After 40 years of hearing storys like -- My car broke down, somebody stole my bus fare, my puppy needs food, I m lost, I just need enough for gas to get home, etc, etc, etc..... Its 99% just a lie --- Usually a druggie, scammer, street walker or crack head trying to scam.......|::::|instead of just handing out money, offer them an opportunity to earn some, if you can. i usually reply with something like, mow my lawn or shovel my driveway- 20 bucks! they usually decline. weird.|::::|my opinon is even if they are lieing they must really need money 2 be out in the street... i mean money comes and goes at least you know you did a good thing..|::::|the taxes that come out of my pay check are enough|::::|You shouldn t have given your hard earned money to either group. For all you know, their dead mother could be sitting at home watching Montel. Next time, donate your money to a charitable organization. A community church group or local food bank.
