What the hell is wrong with youth? -
There s a lot of things in youth culture that we re indirectly told by media and our peers we re quot;supposedquot; to do to have fun. Things like doing destructive drugs, binge drinking until the next day s hangover then do it all over again, sleeping with as many people as possible with no consequences, are supposed to be quot;funquot; as they say. I ask you, what is the point of doing shots, puking, passing out, waking up with a hangover then doing all that again!! You re only hurting yourself. This is the kind of stuff that goes on in college, you know, the place where you LEARN THINGS instead of using your parents hard-earned money to party, smoke pot and not show anything for it? Another message that s being tossed is that if I don t do any of this destructive stuff, I m somehow quot;wasting my lifequot; or not quot;livingquot;. What a crock of ****!! People that don t sleep with the whole neighborhood, let alone town, and are being accountable to their partners are branded as quot;outcastsquot;. What is with all the group think in society? There s either the virgin or the player, the smoker or non-smoker or the poor or the rich. It s obvious the high school mentality goes into your 20 s.|::::|As a teen about to graduate I could not agree with you more. Sadly the stereotype for today s teens is well, a very bad one. I saddens me that today s youth can t handle reality and would rather get drunk or stoned out of their minds then anything else. No, I m not the good book worm virgin I have multiple piercings and tattoos, however I love learning. Yep call me a grade A dork, but I think that an education should be treasured, not everyone gets one. But a lot of teens don t seem to get that and think that somehow their lives are going to magically come together once they graduate. Idiots, I m ashamed to be grouped with them. Not that all teens are like this, but this majority is giving ALL of us a bad name.|::::|i m totally with you. Society has gone to ****. And Youth gets more and more corrupted everyday teaching them to do this and that and if you don t then you re a loser or you are no fun. And sexually, I think it s ridiculous how men get egged on to sleep with every girl they meet and are awesome for it and girls are sluts. Why can t guys be disrespected for this too? I think everyone in this country needs a big reality check.|::::|Our youth? Wow, Our youth represents our future. There are so many ambivalent messages and group expectations heaped on the shoulders of these kids. Yes, experimenting with extreme indulgences is one of the messages delivered. Drinking till you puke, is an act of poor judgment. So is irresponsible sexual activity. The fact that you solicited opinion regarding these excesses of involvement tells me you seek affirmation of your choices. I applaud you.|::::|You are absolutely right and fortunate that you most likely had parents to instill morals in your youth. I blame their parents. Just as you learned to do what is right, they learned to do whatever makes them feel good. It is a shame because we that are older know that some of the mistakes you make when you are young follow you all your life. Having abortions or children at a young age, getting a venereal disease, sometimes fatal, getting in trouble with the law, not getting a good quot;freequot; education. The tendency now is to blame it all on others and not taking responsibility for their own actions, also taught to them by their parents. It is sad.|::::|As a college girl, I must say, along with myself, I know a lot of people who could drink, party and maintain good grades simultaneously. Basically, it doesn t effect all of us, as you have immature and mature individuals. Also, it has nothing to do with quot;youth culturequot; because older adults do the same thing. Can t argue with that. Also, sure enough, most of us go to college to learn and get the chance to have well-paying jobs, but if we can also have parties and fun, I don t see a reason to ignore it. quot;Another message that s being tossed is that if I don t do any of this destructive stuff, I m somehow quot;wasting my lifequot; or not quot;livingquot;. What a crock of ****!! People that don t sleep with the whole neighborhood, let alone town, and are being accountable to their partners are branded as quot;outcastsquot;.quot; One thing I grow tired of is people believing we should all behave in groups. We re all individuals with separate minds Tell me, the adults that have college party come from the bar completely drunk are no different. Honestly, I don t know what planet you live on because they tell you not to do this stuff, however, I still do it because I m mature enough to handle it. The people who are for it are most likely other college kids and they aren t sending a message, they re just trying to convince people to have fun with them. Also, if they are mature, they wouldn t let peer pressure affect them in college. Chances are, at age 20, most people become individuals. quot; What is with all the group think in society? There s either the virgin or the player, the smoker or non-smoker or the poor or the rich. It s obvious the high school mentality goes into your 20 s.quot; Well, that s life for you. Because people have independent minds, you have different personalities. You have people who don t care about sex, but then, you have people that considers it as something to be worshiped. People usually get stressed and find a way around it by smoking, while other believe it s stupid. You have people who don t want to work hard or do well in school, and thus creating poor people, as opposed to the rich who worked hard, then passed the capital to the next generation. As I said, that s life. It s diverse.
