As a martial artist would you play these video games? -
I am trying to think of a way to earn money for the martial arts club at school. We have Wii s, 360s, and PS3s at the rec center at our school, and I was thinking a good way to raise money is to have a video game tournament related to martial arts that anybody in the school can participate in for a nominal fee. Also 1st 2nd and 3rd place winners would get a prize like a gift certificate and we would sell food and drinks during the tournament. Anyways the games I was thinking about having are the Soul Caliber, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Dead or Alive Would you enjoy playing those games or any other game? Also would you personally enjoy more quot;realisticallyquot; based martial arts fighting games like Tekken or would you also enjoy a regular fighting game such as Smash Bros., Dragon Ball Z, Street Fighters etc...? Thanks in advance for your opinion|::::|I guess I m old school. I would go with: Street Fighter 2 Karate Champ (old, old school) Yie Ar Kung Fu (old, old, old school) James|::::|Is Virtua Fighter still around? No magic, just hits and throws. To keep things less controversial, I d suggest less bloody games than Soul Caliber and Mortal Kombat. At least in Street Fighter, you don t kill somebody at the end of each round.|::::|Smash bros I suck at but it is hell of a fun game. Now Soul Caliber II on game cube, Once I figure out Link I was never beaten again. That is a good idea. Good luck with it :)|::::|Of course. Not only I am a Martial Artist, I am a gamer also.|::::|tekken cause thats real karate they do soul caliber has real weapon moves dragon ball z cool game i guess|::::|I actually enjoy DOA (Dead or Alive). It is about the only video game that I do play when I have time.|::::|CoD 4, 5 or L4D. THat s what I plan to get for Christmas. :)|::::|I would second James24 s choices.|::::|Nope.|::::|Hey that s a great idea! Can t go wrong with Street fighter!|::::|haha why not, i love super smash bros and soul caliber|::::|they actually have a ufc game|::::|No, I play Gear of War 2 and Fifa Soccer|::::|The tournament sounds like a great idea. Maybe have one section for tournament, and one for free play/practice? Definitely keep Tekken. I LURVE that game. :D It has the best fighting engine I ve ever come across, awesome characters, and a very wide array of martial arts and techniques. Plus, it s relatively easy to learn and adapt to the various techniques; and several of the characters are fairly easy to use (Christie and Eddy, for instance) cuz all you have to do is smash random buttons and they ll do SOMETHING cool no matter what. :D I would suggest either Tekeken TAG, or Tekken 5. Probably both. Tekken TAG would be better, I think, because one player can pick two different characters and alternate. I played Dragon Ball Z.... once... eons ago.... it was OK. The controls were a bit hard to figure out. The flashing hadoukens and jumping-in-the-air stuff was fun, though. I ve played racing Mario Bros games several times... those are really fun; Smash Bros sounds like it d be just as good. Mario games are pretty easy to figure out; I think it d be great for attracting people who have only a little experience with games. I have played Mortal Kombat, but I don t really like it. The fighting animation is choppy and stilted; and you can ward off just about ANY attack with one block, which I find rather boring. Plus, most of the characters are creepy and ugly, and rather two-dimensional. The blood and many of the gorier techniques are pretty over-the-top, too. But it s very popular with my brother and his friends. :-/ If you do use MK, I d suggest you turn down the blood level as low as possible to ward off concerns/complaints from teachers or parents. Honestly, I really prefer Tekken to MK, but that s just me. I don t have much experience with other fighting games, though... :( .... mainly cuz I ve got more important things occupying my time... like college.... and real life... :D Another idea to consider: Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution are very, very popular games. I know they re not martial arts games, but you could use those games to attract more students. I have many friends that don t really play videogames except for GH and DDR... which they like very, very much. Good luck! :) lt;editgt; oops, also forgot... you can try a wrestling game, like one of those WWF rip-offs... I detest wrestling (at least, the kind with big, burly men in ridiculous BDSM underwear), but my 15-yo.-old cousin and several of his friends are really into it. So..... your call.... lt;edit 2gt; You can t turn the blood and fatalies off on MK? I m pretty sure my brother s copy had that option... I recall he was able to adjust the level of blood and gore (naturally, he turned it up to the max. *rolls eyes*) although I don t know if he could turn it off completely. Either way, I would encourage you to scrap MK because it s got such dark themes. There are plenty of other games to choose from.
