Be a radiology technician or a medical assistant? -

The predicament I am in is I want to go to college and earn my degree in computer science but I dont have the money so I am thinking about either being a medical assistant or a radiology technician just for something that gets me working alot sooner and than go back to school and do the computer thing. I dont know which one to do. Which one pays more? Which one s course is shorter? How long will it take to be a radiology tecnition vs. a medical assistant? and which one is cheapest to do and more worthwhile?|::::|If you re just trying to make some money now while you go to school for computer science, medical assisting is probably the way to go. The programs are shorter (1-2 years vs. 2-4 years for x-ray), and the responsibilities are less involved. The pay is a lot less for medical assistants (20-30k vs 50-60k for x-ray), but again if you re only doing it temporarily it s the easier path to take. See: http://medicalassistants.info/training|::::|I just wanted to correct that x-ray techs are not x-ray quot;techniciansquot;. They are called radiologic technologists (ie, med techs are not medical technicians, they are medical technologists). From where I work at, technicians are the ones who fix our broken processors. :-) Report Abuse |::::|The US Army has a program called quot;Radiology Specialist Programquot; (civilian translation: X-ray tech school). It s only a year long. Six months didactic and six months applicatory. Unlike in civilian, it takes them 2 years to finish. Yes the military program is only one year. Very fast-paced. Report Abuse
